Concrete/composite siding installation for Interior Alaska Homes

siding options and subcontractors in Fairbanks, AlaskaThere are many options for siding available in Fairbanks, Alaska, however some types make more sense than others. On the house featured here our clients preferred the natural lap siding look. They considered cedar but after some discussion went with pre-”stained” concrete fiber lap siding mostly because it is maintenance free. Low maintenance siding makes your life better…you have enough to do as a home owner.fairbanks area general contractor ing on UV exposure. Unless you have a lot of extra time or cash to pay someone, you can eliminate this from your life using a product that is similarly priced from the start. Steel siding is also a great alternative but some folks do not like the look. Synthetic/ composite siding is also a similar alternative to concrete fiber board siding.

Can you tell the difference between natural and concrete fiber siding?

Question about vapor barrier on exterior walls

Hi - I am getting ready to do a full interior renovation of a 120yr old raised home. For the time being I do not intend to do anything on the exterior, which consists of wood weatherboard siding. I do plan on puttin insulation into all the walls before we close back up.
I realize that houses built today, and those with exterior renovations, have a layer of vapor barrier, like tyvek, placed between the siding and the outside edge of the framing. However numerous houses also do not have this, or have builders paper or some other material.
My questions are:
1.Do I risk moisture problems in my walls by essentialy closing them back up the way they have been for a century or more, with the addition of insultation and the removal of lathe (we will just use drywall throughout,...

Ok I got it a light shaft, wood slatted

Vents on the shaft sidewalls with an interior lens.
The wooden slatted louvers on the sidewalls should have an interlining of very fine mesh screen.
The sides of the shaft shoud be treated as an exterior wall so the walls of the shaft would be insulated, etc to keep heat in the structure.
My guess? If this happens every winter, and the vents are screened, they are too big[close to the roof surface].
The wind rushing up the roof has a too easy target, there should be more wall above the roof before the vent.
Soultion : smaller vents. This summer you or someone remove the vents, install smaller--shorter ones
