Re: Vinyl Siding With Foam Insulation

I see what you are saying about lining up now. I'm thinking they are double wide panels but I'm not sure.

As for "give", we're not talking a lot. But you should be able to "slide" the panels back and forth a little (with some effort). If you can't, then the nails are too tight. And no, they don't unlock unless there are very high winds, and then you've got other issues. Of course with the picture, I can't tell how "loose" they are. The nail head should be nailed in far enough that the underside is holding the siding next to the sheeting without pinching or dimpling.

I did this on my last house flip. It's really not hard at all. Just use common sense. First, I bought three identical window units. All double hung. Secondly I picked a spot where I wanted the unit to be located. Then I built (on the ground) a rectangular wall for the front and used braces to hold it up. From there I built two side walls at a 45 degree angle and attached them to the front wall on each side and braced those. Then I built the roof unit framing and nailed the decking for the shingles. Mind you, this was on a vinyl sided house, so it was a simple transition for me. If you've got brick or stucco, it's going to be a more difficult transition getting your facade to...
